Camping La Douane: camping by the River Semois

Camping La Douane is situated in a unique location in the Belgian Ardennes, right on the banks of the River Semois and just a few minutes’ walk from the charming village of Bohan. The campsite stretches for almost a kilometre along the riverbank, meaning that virtually every pitch offers views of the river, the surrounding woods and the green hills of the Ardennes. Anyone looking for nature, peace and quiet, and the true outdoor experience will feel right at home here. The natural layout, without hedges or fences, enhances the sense of space and freedom.

Camping pitches, safari tents and a tiny house

Camping La Douane offers a variety of ways to spend the night surrounded by nature. The spacious pitches, measuring approximately 90 to 110 m², are suitable for tents, caravans and motorhomes, and most are situated right by the water. In addition, there are paved pitches available for motorhomes and a few backpacker pitches for travellers travelling light. Those who prefer a little more comfort can stay in one of the safari tents by the river. These glamping tents feature two bedrooms, a living room and a fully equipped kitchen. There is also a cosy tiny house for two to three people with views of the Semois and the surrounding mountains.

Enjoying the great outdoors in the Ardennes

Life at Camping La Douane takes place mainly outdoors. On warm days, you can swim in the river or relax by the water’s edge whilst the children build dams or paddle in the water. Fishing is also an option. At Brasserie La Buvette, you can enjoy a drink on the terrace or sample one of the Belgian speciality beers. In the evening, a campfire or barbecue adds to the atmosphere. Dogs are also very welcome, making the campsite a favourite with walkers who bring their four-legged friends on holiday.

Walking, kayaking and exploring around Bohan

The area around Camping La Douane is a paradise for lovers of active holidays. From Bohan, there are countless walking, cycling and mountain-biking routes through the forests and hills of the Ardennes. One of the most popular activities is a kayak trip down the Semois, where you can paddle past picturesque villages and impressive nature reserves. Anglers can also enjoy themselves here, thanks to the fish-rich river and the many streams in the area.

As well as its natural beauty, the region also has plenty of culture and attractions to offer. The charming village of Bohan is just 300 metres from the campsite and boasts outdoor cafés, restaurants and shops. A visit to the medieval town of Bouillon is an absolute must. Here you’ll find the famous Bouillon Castle, which towers high above the river and offers stunning views of the surrounding countryside. Bouillon’s wildlife park is also a great day out for families. Thanks to its location close to the French border, you can also easily take a day trip to charming French villages or the town of Charleville-Mézières. Camping La Douane is therefore an excellent base for a holiday full of nature, relaxation and adventure in the Belgian Ardennes.
